GUIDELINES FOR READING JOURNAL ASSIGNMENT
Due
on Nov.14th and Dec 19th
Write a 500-800
word reading journal (typed, double-spaced, 12-point font, and 1” margins all
around; refer to MLA format style https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/747/01/)
focusing on your thoughts and responses to the assigned reading for the previous
month. Don’t be overly concerned with grammar (although spell-check will be
helpful!), but do put a lot of thinking into your reading journals since they
will be key to fruitful discussions in class and even your final paper.
You could bring
printed-out version to the class; also, you can submit the Journal to my email
address maran@lit.nagoya-u.ac.jp; I’d send out confirmation email once your
assignment is received. If you might be late for the submission, please email
me in advance. Also, if you are sitting in, you are encouraged to submit your
journal to me, though it is not a must.
Reading Journal Format
Include the
following information at the top of each numbered reading journal:
Your Name
Course Title
Date
Reading Journal #
Title of article (MLA format)
|
You should engage
with ONE or TWO reading(s) as listed in our syllabus—one of which MUST be the required readings—and you are
expected to review, evaluate and even critique certain concepts and arguments
presented; you should be able to present your own interpretation and viewpoints.
It is recommended that you also refer to films we have screened, but the discussions of
the readings should always be prioritized.
