SEMINAR guidance
Dear all,
Here is the basic outline of the flow for our seminar sessions
1) 15-20 min of Working Sheet (hand-writing)
What to do: we shall write down:
a) keywords of the readings;
b) interesting/useful/inspiring aspects of the readings: you could do either macro- or micro-observations;
c) what makes the readings challenging (language? theoretical aspects? structure? etc.)
d) in which ways the readings may relate to your own study? (or not...)
2) Details of Presentation/each one 20 min (presentation order see below)
for a presenter: visuals (PPT, etc.) are not the must (read=use it when necessary); we also welcome you to write on the whiteboard;
in your presentation, we want to know what these materials are about(content), but more importantly: What your keywords have taught you (could you use simple sentences to summarize their ideas)? How has the author organized her/his arguments (would be nice to draw a chart)? Could you use these new framings to analyze similar media texts/phenomenon/situations etc.?
3) last part: free-style discussionsFacilitator + Discussant
Whether there is a presentation or not, we would like to invite one or two students to facilitate the discussions, with questions prepared; also the facilitator (could be the presenter) is to guide the flow of the discussion, to see how it could be re-directed, re-focused(if it goes somewhere else...). I would also help you.
